A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of activities much better than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and employing patience techniques to not arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items came out over the holidays, and if you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Without a doubt the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not yet been announced.
